We had a guest speaker in our Japanese-American experience class today. His name is Mas Hashimoto, he was forced into an internment camp with his family when he was a child during WWII. The presentation was very touching and eye opening. The pictures he had in his presentation were very different from just reading about the experiences of the Japanese-Americans that were in the camps.
I know this isn't good, but I got nothing productive done over spring break as far as school work. I did manage to catch up on sleep however which was nice. I went home and stayed with my mom for spring break and caught up with my friends and family. Went to a really great Japanese restaurant called gyu-kaku, it's a yakiniku restaurant where they bring out precut and marinated meats and vegetables which you cook yourselves on a grill which is built into the table.
Today in Class everyone added different ideas to a google word document to help us come up with different ideas for what to write about in our journals while we are abroad. There were so many different ideas, all together we managed to fill up four pages.
During class we took a survey about learning and understanding new cultures while we study abroad. It was a lot of information to go over, but very helpful for learning about different methods for learning and adapting to new cultures. I can't wait to try out and see which methods work best for myself.
